Geely (SEHK:175) Q3 Earnings Expose A Margin Squeeze Beneath Export Growth

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

Geely Automobile Holdings entered its Q3 2026 earnings with the stock under pressure, down about 30% over the past three months and closing at HK$13.84 on 30 October. Expectations were leaning on the value story. The fresh numbers instead spotlight a squeeze on profitability. Quarterly net income of RMB 4,837.335m on revenue of RMB 98,963.687m and a dip in basic earnings per share from Q2 hint at pressure on margins just as the share price already reflects heavy pessimism. For investors, that gap between valuation and profit quality is now front and centre.

Geely’s Earnings Mix Story Faces a Margin Reality Check

Supporters argue that Geely Automobile Holdings can upgrade profit quality as exports, premium brands and hybrids scale.

"The main thing that has to go right is that Geely converts its One Geely integration, premium brands like Zeekr and Lynk & Co, and global manufacturing partnerships into sustained overseas demand that absorbs capacity without eroding margins."

Export volume is clearly moving, with overseas sales raised toward 920,000 units for 2026 and 797,670 exports already in the first nine months. NEVs now carry 61% of export volume and Zeekr revenue more than doubled. Yet the trailing net profit margin has slipped to 4.7%, so the richer mix is not yet flowing cleanly into group profitability.

Geely Bear Case: Margin Strain Outruns Export Hype

Bearish investors worry that Geely Automobile Holdings can ship more cars abroad yet still fail to earn a decent return on all that capacity and capital.

"Although Geely Automobile Holdings reports very strong recent export growth and has raised its 2026 overseas target to 920,000 units with an ambition of 1 million, the downgrade citing structural headwinds for China autos suggests that new tariffs or non tariff barriers and weaker external demand could leave this expanded capacity underutilised and weigh on future export revenue and earnings."

Exports and NEV mix are clearly scaling. However, the trailing net profit margin has slipped to 4.7%. That erosion, alongside a weaker share price over 90 days, shows overseas momentum has not protected profitability so far.

Hunt For Mispriced Earnings Power

Geely Automobile Holdings shows how sentiment can stay cautious even when the income statement moves. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market adjusts to their cash generation.

  • Company 1 - 32% below our estimate - targets data centre customers restructuring power-hungry racks around a tightly integrated AI hardware and software stack.

  • Company 3 - 39% below our estimate - relies on equipment and service demand that supports stronger free cash generation alongside a materially lighter balance sheet.
