Market Chatter: Evonik to Reportedly Reject BASF's Sweetened Takeover Offer Over Undervaluation

01:11 AM EDT, 10/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Evonik Industries (EVK.F) is set to reject BASF's (BAS.F) increased takeover proposal of 24 euros per share, as management is of the view that the 11 billion-euro offer undervalues the company, the Financial Times reported Friday. Sources familiar with the matter said Evonik could issue a statement about the offer in the coming days. The people added that the company may still be open to further talks if BASF raises the offer price and provides more clarity on the strategic benefits of a potential merger. Currently, Evonik reportedly prefers its standalone strategy, which includes potential acquisitions, and the company is among the bidders for US specialty chemicals group Ashland. Evonik, BASF, and Ashland did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
