eBay just posted its Q3 2026 scorecard and the market loved it. The stock climbed 2.7% on the day, a brisk move for a mature marketplace platform, yet the reaction only hints at what actually landed in this report. Shoppers pushed gross merchandise volume higher into the mid-$20b range and revenue reached about $3.2b, while non GAAP earnings per share came in at $1.51. Short term traders are cheering the beat. Longer term investors are weighing a different question. Is this the start of a new uptrend in conviction, not just in price.

Earnings give you a snapshot, but investors who care about valuation often move quickly to the cash that actually comes through the door. The pattern of free cash generation can tell a different story to the income statement.
Looking at eBay's cash flows alone, and plugging those streams into a discounted cash flow model, the stock could be a meaningful 25% undervalued.
Bulls argue eBay can turn recommerce buzz, Live and AI tools into a richer services layer that lifts earnings over time.
"The main requirement for the bullish thesis is that eBay converts its strong momentum in C2C, focus categories, AI tools and new formats such as Live and vehicles into sustained high-margin growth, while managing risks related to Depop integration, shipping economics and compliance issues."
Q3 shows real movement toward that ambition. GMV reached US$23.2b FX neutral with roughly 13% organic growth, while revenue of US$3.2b and non GAAP EPS of US$1.51 beat guidance. Advertising grew faster than the top line and shipping income rose at a double digit clip. That supports the idea of a thicker, higher margin services stack, although GAAP net income fell 16% as Depop and other investments still weigh on reported profitability.
On the flip side, the worry is that Depop, shipping protection and compliance drag down the very margin story bulls are betting on.
"The acquisition of Depop is expected to dilute non GAAP EPS growth and non GAAP operating income growth through 2027, and external research points to a mid single digit headwind to 2026 EPS growth."
That concern is visible in this quarter. Non GAAP EPS rose 12% and operating income increased 11%, yet GAAP profit fell from US$597m to US$501m. Management flagged Depop related costs and higher investments, while also tightening protection economics in shipping because of transaction losses. The whistleblower lawsuit and broader compliance upgrades in motors show control issues are still being worked through, even as top line trends look healthy.

eBay showed how sentiment can change quickly when quarterly results exceed cautious expectations. The real opportunity is researching stocks that could be undervalued before more investors focus on them.
