Nextpower came into this Q2 2027 report with a reputation as a high growth solar hardware player trading on a modest 19.8x P/E. The stock still slipped 2.7% on the day to US$79.83. That move jars with the headline result. Quarterly revenue reached about US$1.11b and net income excluding extra items was roughly US$165 million, while management kept net profit margin near 16% despite cost pressure.
The biggest story is not the price drop. It is the strain on profitability as margins run lower than a year ago, even as the company leans into expansion and new product ramps.

Earnings only tell part of the story, since reported profit can move around with accounting choices while pure cash generation shows what is actually available to owners. When you look through to Nextpower's cash flows, the stock could be a hefty 40% undervalued.
Bulls argue Nextpower is building a broader energy platform, not just defending trackers.
"Analysts expect Nextpower to keep building on its solar tracker, software and eBOS platform, with the larger backlog and updated fiscal 2027 outlook pointing to a business that is still investing for further growth rather than just defending its current position."
The latest quarter backs up that ambition. Revenue reached about US$1.11b with net income excluding extra items of roughly US$165 million, while backlog moved beyond US$6b on bookings well over US$1b. Non tracker lines produced roughly 22% of turnover, and storage alone generated about US$100 million and more than US$20 million of adjusted EBITDA, which shows the broader platform is starting to matter numerically.
The bear story focuses on whether project delays and miss risk swamp that growth agenda.
"Interconnection timelines that can stretch to 7 to 10 years in regions such as PJM and MISO create a risk that some contracted solar and storage projects move more slowly than expected. This would delay conversion of backlog into revenue and could affect earnings timing and cash generation."
Latest figures show strong top line delivery and about 16% net margin, yet management still guides to lower gross and EBITDA margins in the second half as project mix, ramp costs and timing weigh. Q3 revenue is expected below Q2 even though backlog has risen, which fits the concern that grid and scheduling frictions can slow revenue recognition even when the order book looks healthy.

Nextpower just showed how a busy backlog can sit beside margin questions and a softer share price. The real opportunity could sit in stocks where fundamentals and market pricing appear out of sync.
