Banco Comercial Português entered this Q3 2026 earnings release with a mixed share price story. The stock is up roughly 3.5% over the past week yet down about 9.6% over the last month, as investors weigh growth hopes against a richer P/E tag than many European peers.
The fresh numbers put profit power center stage. Net income of €324.1m and basic earnings per share of €0.0198 in the quarter point to a business that is still converting its €902.4m of revenue into meaningful bottom line, even if the share price has not fully reflected that in recent weeks.

The bullish story hangs on credit expansion and digital engagement turning into steadier, higher quality income for Banco Comercial Português.
"The sustained expansion of the performing loan book in Portugal and the double digit corporate loan growth in Poland indicate structurally higher credit volumes that could support growth in net interest income and earnings over the next several years."
Q3 shows earnings power, with €324.12m of profit on €902.35m of revenue. However, the sharp year on year step down in both lines raises questions about how reliably loan volume momentum is feeding through into income. Non performing loans at roughly €493m are broadly flat, which supports the credit quality part of the thesis.
The bear case focuses on whether the push toward business clients loads the balance sheet with more cyclical risk than investors are comfortable with.
"The strategy to rebalance toward SME and corporate lending in Portugal and Poland is capital intensive and inherently riskier than retail mortgages. An adverse turn in the European cycle or sector specific stress could push cost of risk above the guided 30 to 40 basis point range and erode net margins and return on equity."
Current figures show net income still solid relative to revenue and non performing loans almost unchanged at about €493m. There is no visible spike in problem assets in this quarter. Even so, the drop in earnings versus Q3 2025 suggests less headroom if cost of risk later tracks higher than management’s preferred range.
