12:40 AM EDT, 10/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Stability Mechanism, or ESM, completed its 1 billion-euro digitally native bond issuance settled directly in central bank money, according to a Monday release. The European Union rescue fund used distributed ledger technology on the Eurosystem's new Pontes platform, marking the region's shift from testing wholesale digital financial technology to deploying it live. The Deutsche Bundesbank served as the issuing and paying agent, while Clearstream provided the digital market infrastructure. The benchmark bond is slated for listing on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and is anticipated to qualify as collateral for the Eurosystem Collateral Management System's monetary policy transactions. It is also expected to serve as eligible collateral for Eurex Clearing and be integrated into Eurex Repo's general collateral baskets.
