Japan says 8.3% of passengers from China had COVID on arrival in past week

- Japan's health authority said on Friday that 8.3% of travellers from China had tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival since it tightened border controls against China last week.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare said 408 of 4,895 passengers on direct flights from China and travellers who had been to China in the past seven days had tested positive for coronavirus at Japanese airports in the period Dec. 30 to Jan. 5.

Japan has been testing all visitors from China on arrival at airports since last Friday as part of its stricter border control in the wake of a coronavirus surge in China.
