US Redbook Same-Store Sales Pace Slows in Week Ended May 8, Still Brisk

05/11/2021 05:08

08:55 AM EDT, 05/11/2021 (MT Newswires) -- US Redbook same-store sales rose by 13.3% from a year earlier in the week ended May 8 after a 14.2% year-over-year increase in the previous week.

Redbook noted that Mother's Day drove most of the sales, with purchases of jewelry, cosmetics, flowers, cards, and small appliances particularly strong. There was also seasonal spending due to warmer temperatures and ahead of graduations.

In the first selling week for May, sales were up 13.3% compared with May 2020, below the target for a 15.7% gain.
