Bioceres Crop Solutions, Havanna to Offer HB4 Wheat-Based Sustainable Products in Brazil, Argentina
02:19 PM EDT, 05/10/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Bioceres Crop Solutions (BIOX) has signed an agreement with Havanna, which owns a chain of more than 300 stores across the Americas and Europe, to offer HB4 wheat-based sustainable products in Brazil and Argentina.
Havanna customers in those two countries could select food items with a "significantly reduced carbon footprint and other environmental positive externalities," according to a statement Monday. The company said its farm-to-fork process will be "fully traceable and secured on blockchain technology."
Agriculture is estimated to contribute about one quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions, the company said. Wheat varieties with HB4 technology expand yields by 20% and carbon dioxide sequestration by up to 7%, on average, during seasons impacted by droughts.
