Midday ETF Update: Broad-Market ETFs, US Stocks Mixed in Midday Trading

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 1.3%.

US stocks were mixed amid a surge in base metal prices and government bond yields declined along with oil futures in midday trading on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was up 1.0% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was also up 1.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was 1.1% lower, iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 3.4%, and iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 2.6%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 2.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 2.6%.

Commodities

Crude was fractionally higher; United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 0.3%. Natural gas fell 0.8% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dipped 0.7%.

Gold was up 0.6%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up 0.4%. Silver gained 0.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.1% lower.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 1.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 0.3%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.9% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were firmer. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 1.1% while other industrial funds iShares Trust Dow Jones U.S. Industrial Sector Index Fund (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher in midday trading.
