- James Levine, one of the world's most acclaimed conductors who served as music director for the Metropolitan Opera in New York for four decades before sexual abuse accusations prompted a messy exit, died on March 9 at age 77, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

The paper quoted Levine's physician, Dr. Len Horovitz. It said the cause was not immediately released.
