FirstEnergy Breaks Ground on Ohio EV Battery Plant
12:52 PM EST, 02/05/2021 (MT Newswires) -- FirstEnergy Corp. (FE) has started construction on a transmission substation in Trumbull County, Ohio, to support the area's electric vehicle industry.
The $19.6 million project will provide electric service to Ultium Cells LLC, an EV battery-cell manufacturing plant backed by General Motors (GM) and South Korea's LG Chem. Additional work, which includes constructing a third, new high-voltage line in Lordstown, Ohio, is planned in April. The 3 million-square-foot facility is expected to employ about 1,000 workers.
