DJ Preliminary Indonesian Crash Report To Target Automated Throttle -- Market Talk

· 02/05/2021 12:10

12:10 ET - Pilots of a Sriwijaya Air jet that plunged into the Java Sea last month failed to resolve problems with the Boeing 737's automated throttle system, according to a person familiar with an impending preliminary crash report. The aircraft's autopilot was preparing to level the jet off at an altitude of roughly 11,000 feet, the report is expected to reveal, when the automated throttle system previously armed by the crew apparently stopped operating normally. Thrust from one of the plane's engines reduced as expected but the second engine remained on climb power putting out significantly greater thrust, data included in the report is expected to show. The accident took 62 lives. (andy.pasztor@wsj.com)
