Market Chatter: Italy's Consob Reportedly Rules Out Investor Pact Allegations for MedioBanca-Banca Monte dei Paschi Deal

01:02 AM EST, 12/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Italian market watchdog Consob reportedly said that there was no "collusion" between Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI) and other investors for its bid for Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario (MB.MI). Bloomberg News reported Dec. 6, citing Italian financial newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, that the watchdog did not find any signs of the pact during its investigation, and the deal's high offer acceptance implied widespread market participation. Consob added that the Italian lender was already mulling a bid for its peer Mediobanca prior to the alleged investors becoming shareholders. Banca Monte dei Paschi and Mediobanca did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
