Canada's Minister of Industry, Melanie Joly, officially issued a notice of default to automobile manufacturer Stellantis NV on December 4. The company previously cancelled plans to manufacture Jeep Compass SUVs at its Brampton, Ontario plant and transferred production to one of its US plants. The Canadian Government has previously pledged more than 500 million Canadian dollars to Stellantis for capital expenses at its Canadian plant. Stellantis confirmed that confidential dispute resolution procedures are ongoing with the Canadian government in an effort to secure the future of the Canadian automobile manufacturing industry, and that around 3,000 union workers at the Brampton plant have lost their jobs as a result of this production shift.
