The reporter learned from the China Disabled Persons' Federation that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Affairs and the China Disabled Persons' Federation recently jointly promulgated the “National Professional Standard for Sign Language Translation”, marking a new stage of standardized and specialized development in China's sign language translation industry. The standard divides sign language translation occupations into four levels: junior translator, intermediate translator, senior translator, and senior translator. In terms of career overview, basic requirements, work requirements, theory and skill weight, the professional competency requirements of sign language translation are regulated, and a clear path is provided for the development of sign language translation careers. A relevant person in charge of the Education and Employment Department of the China Disabled Persons' Federation explained that the promulgation and implementation of the standards will further promote standardization of sign language translation vocational training, skill evaluation, and industry management, help improve the overall quality of sign language translation practitioners and expand the supply of high-quality sign language translation services.
