Grant competition will kick off to identify an outstanding young investigator conducting breakthrough research in cancer survivorship
BURLINGAME, Calif., June 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Color Health is pleased to announce, in collaboration with the award founders, it has provided support for a 2026 Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, Young Investigator Award (YIA), focused on Survivorship Research. The goal of this $50,000 grant is to support top young investigators conducting compelling, breakthrough research in the understudied area of living well after a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Conquer Cancer will launch a special competition calling for applicants of this YIA in Survivorship Research on July 1, 2025, as part of its 2026 Grants & Awards Program. The competition is designed to identify, celebrate, and support the best and brightest young researcher in the field of survivorship, and to increase the awareness of the unmet needs of people who survive cancer. The inaugural recipient of this one-year grant will be announced at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
"Ringing the bell after chemotherapy doesn't just mark the end of treatment – it marks the beginning of a new identity and path: survivorship. For many, that chapter requires navigating life-altering complications and symptoms from cancer and its treatment, managing long-term health effects, accessing preventive care, and staying on top of cancer screening while also returning to the work, hobbies and people they love," said Rebecca Miksad, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer at Color Health and a practicing medical oncologist. "As a former Conquer Cancer YIA recipient, I am thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Conquer Cancer and support advancements that improve the lives of patients with cancer."
"Survivorship is an area of cancer care that is traditionally overlooked and severely underfunded," said Dr. Lidia Schapira, Stanford University Professor of Medicine, medical oncologist, and one of the donors providing support for the grant. "We hope this grant will help to change that. As an oncologist, researcher and mentor, I know firsthand how important research funding is for young investigators, and for advancing innovations in oncology."
