As The Brand Celebrates 30 Years, Survey Findings Underscore the Brand's Enduring Leadership and Connection with Long-Term Guests

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A new national survey commissioned by Extended Stay America® and conducted by Wakefield Research reveals that extended stay hotels outperform vacation rentals or apartments when it comes to comfort, value, and feeling at home. In fact, 79% of respondents said extended stay hotels feel like a home away from home, and a strong majority (82%) agreed they feel more like home than vacation rentals or apartments.

Among available options, respondents preferred extended-stay hotels citing amenities (34%), comfort and familiarity (33%), and personalization (30%) as top reasons. 43% of respondents said they find extended stay hotels more affordable and better value than rentals or apartments.

"For more than 30 years, Extended Stay America has remained exclusively focused on meeting the needs of long-term guests," said Greg Juceam, President and CEO of Extended Stay America. "As a pioneer of the extended stay segment, we're proud to see these survey findings confirm that our guests value what sets us apart - affordability, the comforts of home and genuine care."

Extended Stay America is the only major hotel brand exclusively focused on the extended stay category. With over 700 locations nationwide, the company has built a trusted reputation by delivering a thoughtful guest experience for those navigating life transitions like relocations, career changes, or unexpected events.

A resounding 89% of respondents agreed that extended stay hotels fill a vital need for people in transition. The survey found that 66% of respondents consider extended stay hotels a temporary replacement for home, most commonly during a home renovation, relocation, or financial hardship.

"Our guests depend on Extended Stay America because they know what to expect: spacious suites with fully equipped kitchens and plenty of room to work and relax - a place to call home for however long they need," said Kelly Poling, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial & Brand Officer. "We've spent three decades refining the extended stay experience, setting the standard for the category while consistently delivering genuine hospitality, affordability, and convenience."

One of the most valued features cited in the research is the full-size kitchen, a standard across all Extended Stay America suites. Nearly half of respondents (49%) said this is the biggest advantage over traditional hotels, and 61% of guests report that access to a kitchen saves them more than $75 per week.

Additional key findings from the survey include:

  • 85% of respondents said they would choose an extended stay hotel for their future lodging needs
  • 64% value the sense of community extended stay hotels offer
