LAW FIRM WINS TRO OVER USE OF LION LOGO: Federal Court Steps In to Prevent Lender's Use of Logo Confusingly Similar to That Used by Powerful Litigation Shop Troutman Amin, LLP

IRVINE, Calif., June 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Citing concerns of potential "irreparable injury" a federal court in California issued a temporary restraining order last week banning Irvine lender Symple Lending from using a lion shield logo that looks deceptively similar to the well-known logo used by powerful complex litigation firm Troutman Amin, LLP.

Troutman Amin, LLP's blue and gold logo—which features a lion wearing a crown within an inner crest set within a shield with offset blue and gold lines—logo can be found at venues throughout Orange County, CA. The logo features in prominent displays at John Wayne Airport, Irvine Global Village Festival, the Honda Center and during the recent Troutman Amin, LLP Newport Beach International Boat Show.

Per the Complaint filed in the case, the lion logo has become "a symbol of integrity, safety, and reliability" owing to the "extraordinary hard work" and "demonstrated integrity every member of the firm displays in every professional effort." The firm's #lookforthelion slogan also encourages businesses to seek out the lion logo to assure they receive reliable information and trustworthy legal advice.

According to the Complaint, Symple allegedly sells what appear to be high-risk loan products to consumers in Orange County, California. Its website allegedly suggests loan rates may have interest as high as 35%. And its social media page allegedly promotes employees making over a hundred thousand dollars in commissions in a single month by selling these loans to consumers.

Per the Complaint, it is unclear how Defendant's employees are able to reap such huge commissions unless the loans are risky in nature, reflecting their high cost and interest rates. This Complaint also alleges the use of the deceptively similar logo "is a deliberate effort to comfort consumers and falsely trick consumers into believing the products sold by [Symple] are safe and backed by Troutman Amin, LLP" although Troutman Amin, LLP has no relationship with Symple and does not support its products.

In issuing its Order banning Symple from using its similar logo, the Court determined firm founder and trademark holder Eric J. Troutman was likely to prevail on the merits over Symple in the case and that the "potential damage to Plaintiffs' goodwill would likely be irreparable."

The Order is in effect until June 17, 2025 when the Court will hold a hearing to determine whether a preliminary injunction banning Symple's use of the logo will be issued.
