The Zhitong Finance App learned that the American Automotive Policy Council (American Automotive Policy Council) lashed out at the Trump administration's announcement of the UK trade agreement on Friday, warning that it would harm the interests of US automakers.

Matt Brent, chairman of the US Automobile Policy Committee, emphasized, “The US auto industry is highly integrated with Canada and Mexico, but this is not the case between the US and the UK. We are disappointed by the government's approach to putting the UK above its North American partners. ”

“Under this agreement, importing a British car with very few US parts will now be cheaper than importing a Mexican or Canadian car that complies with the USMCA and contains 50% US parts. It would hurt American car manufacturers, suppliers, and auto workers. We hope this approach of prioritizing British cars over North American cars will not set a precedent for future negotiations with Asian and European competitors.”

The US Automotive Policy Committee represents the interests of Ford Motor Company (F.US), General Motors (GM.US), and Stellantis (STLA.US).
