The reporter learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that currently, arable land across the country is mainly affected by the drought in the eight provinces and regions of Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Shaanxi regions without irrigation conditions. Since April 30, rainfall has occurred in most parts of Guangxi, southwestern Yunnan, northeastern Hebei, and southern Henan. Coupled with strong and effective drought-relief measures, the drought situation in Guangxi has been alleviated to a large extent, and the droughts in Yunnan, Hebei, and Henan have eased somewhat. Currently, wheat in the north is in the pumping to grouting period, which requires a high amount of water. Spring planting work is in full swing in Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi and other places. Drought relief and summer food protection and spring planting have entered a critical period. Irrigation water is generally guaranteed in irrigation areas. Areas without irrigation conditions need to take emergency measures such as agronomy preservation and humidity enhancement to do their best to reduce losses. It is estimated that in the next 10 days, most of Guangxi will have 50-140 mm of rainfall, and the drought is expected to be lifted; rainfall in south-central Sichuan, eastern Yunnan, most of Hebei, and most of Hubei will be 20-50 mm, which is beneficial to mitigating the drought; most of the two provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi, western Henan, and northern Yunnan will basically have no effective rainfall, and the drought will continue or develop. The Ministry of Water Resources will continue to pay close attention to the national drought situation, strengthen monitoring and forecasting, conduct rolling consultations, scientifically dispatch key water projects, guide and support the precise scope, precise targets, precise timing, and precise measures in arid regions, ensure the safety of urban and rural water supply and water use in agricultural production, and do its best to mitigate the effects and losses of the drought.
