The Zhitong Finance App learned that on April 16, Hong Kong's Secretary for Treasury, Hui Ching-yu, said in a written response to lawmakers' questions at the Legislative Council meeting that since its establishment, the Hong Kong Investment Corporation has invested in more than 100 projects, including enterprises with cutting-edge technology or in key industries, which are medium- to long-term investments. Key topics include hard technology, life technology, new energy and green technology, which account for 56%, 16% and 11% of the capital invested, respectively. In order to give the public a more comprehensive understanding of the operation and business results of the Hong Kong Investment Corporation, the Hong Kong Investment Corporation plans to publish its first annual report in the second half of this year to report on the progress of operations and investments.
Xu Zhengyu said that with the further expansion of investment by Hong Kong investment companies, their role has gradually become apparent, including: further activating the relevant science and innovation ecosystem in Hong Kong, attracting more cutting-edge technology companies to settle in Hong Kong or expand their research teams in Hong Kong; also allowing Hong Kong-based startups to explore and explore Asian and international markets, and promote more cross-sector and cross-industry exchanges in technology and industry; leveraged market capital supports the development of local science and technology enterprises.
The Hong Kong Investment Corporation actively cooperates with various investment institutions and invests together to promote the continuous development and application of cutting-edge technology in Hong Kong. According to Xu Zhengyu, as of March 2025, every HK$1 invested by a Hong Kong investment company can drive long-term capital investment of more than HK$4 in the market. On average, two to three investment institutions participated in each of the above projects.
The Hong Kong Investment Corporation is making every effort to organize the 2025 Hong Kong Startup Investment and Development Summit Forum and the International Patient Capital Forum (Forum). The two events will bring together key stakeholders in the fields of “government”, “industry”, “science”, “research”, “investment” and various fields of innovation and technology, providing them with a platform to thoroughly exchange insights on Hong Kong's innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital from various perspectives, and jointly build a thriving ecosystem. Additionally, international “patient capital” investment institutions, including sovereign funds, will be invited to attend the forum to encourage them to actively participate in Hong Kong's financial market and innovation and technology ecosystem. The Hong Kong Investment Corporation is making every effort to advance preparations and will announce the details of the event in due course.
