The US Trump administration has claimed many times that the imposition of tariffs will bring “a boom in the return of manufacturing.” However, according to a recent survey on the supply chain conducted by the US Consumer News and Business Channel, the US manufacturing industry will not be the main beneficiary of the tariff policy. Most of the companies surveyed said that the high cost would prevent them from moving their manufacturing back to the US. Nearly half of the respondents said that moving the manufacturing industry back to the US would double the cost. 61% of respondents believe that the US will experience rising prices and falling consumer demand, and 63% believe that a recession is inevitable.
