US President Donald Trump has been sued by a group of mostly Democrat-led states. The states alleged that cutting the US Department of Education in half was actually tantamount to dissolving the department. Some states, including New York and California, said in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Boston on Thursday that plans to lay off about 1,378 more employees on top of the 600 employees who had earlier been bought out would reduce the Department of Education's ability to carry out its duties under federal law. The lawsuit against Trump and Education Secretary Linda McMahon is one of a growing number of lawsuits challenging government spending cuts and reshaping the federal government through Elon Musk's controversial Department of Government Efficiency.
