Kurakhovo is the largest city in the southwestern part of Donbass and under the control of the Ukrainian military. The site is a transportation and railway hub, which is of great strategic importance to the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian military supplies troops in Donbass through here, and the area guards the road leading to Pokrovsk, the logistics hub of the Ukrainian army, or “Red Army Village.” Furthermore, Kurakhovo is also the last stronghold with artillery equipped by the Ukrainian army that can directly hit the city of Donetsk.
