Chicago Federal Reserve Governor Goulsby said he expects the central bank to continue to lower interest rates from the position of neither suppressing nor promoting economic activity. “Unless there is compelling evidence that the economy is overheating, I see no reason not to keep lowering the federal funds rate,” Goulsby said in an interview on Monday, referring to the central bank's benchmark interest rate. “The speed of action will depend on the outlook and conditions,” Goulsby added. “But it is quite clear to me that we are on the path of falling interest rates, closer to neutral levels.”
