The China Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information Science and Technology Annual Conference hosted by the Chinese Society of Surveying and Mapping was held in Zhengzhou, Henan on October 16. According to the “Research Report on China's Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information Technology Innovation and Industrial Development” released at the annual conference, China is stepping up pilot projects for intelligent connected vehicle applications. The report shows that China's technology accumulation in the fields of communications, satellites, and infrastructure construction has laid the foundation for the development of “vehicle-road cloud integration.” In the first half of 2024, all regions of the country intensively introduced policies to promote the development of the autonomous driving industry. In July, five departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued an announcement announcing the launch of “vehicle-road cloud integration” application pilot projects for intelligent connected vehicles in 20 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Shenyang. Up to now, China has built 17 national intelligent connected vehicle test zones. The total length of open test roads exceeds 32,000 kilometers, more than 7,700 test licenses have been issued, and the total test mileage has exceeded 120 million kilometers. More than 8,700 intelligent roadside units have been deployed in various regions, and construction of cloud control infrastructure platforms has begun.
