The National Health Commission held a press conference today. Shen Haiping, director of the Department of Maternal and Child Care of the National Health Commission, explained that the detection rate for AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis B among pregnant women in China has reached more than 99%, and the proportion of infected pregnant women and children born to them has implemented intervention measures of more than 90%. In 2022, the National Health Commission launched the “Eradicate Mother-to-Child Transmission of AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B” campaign. In 2023, the mother-to-child transmission rate in the five provinces of Beijing, Jiangsu, Hunan, Guangdong and Yunnan has reached a low level, achieving the goal of elimination. In the next step, the National Health Commission will accelerate efforts by other provinces across the country to achieve the goal of “eliminating mother-to-child transmission of AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis B”.
