The Zhitong Finance App learned that AWS, a subsidiary of Amazon (AMZN.US), the world's largest cloud computing provider, said that the new system equipped with Nvidia (NVDA.US) Blackwell chips may not be launched until the beginning of next year, which is later than originally anticipated.

When Nvidia launched its new generation of processors in March this year, it said that partners such as Amazon would have Blackwell-based products ready by the end of 2024. But due to Nvidia's redesign of chips, Amazon is still waiting to put a large number of chips into its data centers.

AWS CEO Matt Garman said on Thursday that Nvidia's schedule had “changed.” “We're working with them now, and we have early samples, but as they redesign Blackwell's chips and increase production, we probably won't get real mass-produced samples until early next year.”

Investors are very concerned about when Nvidia's latest products will be delivered to customers and put into use. With strong demand for its artificial intelligence (AI) chips, the chip maker has become one of the world's most valuable companies. Nvidia said it is expected to generate billions of dollars in revenue from this processor in the fourth quarter, even after production delays.

Garman said that AWS will be the first to deploy computers based on this new chip on a large scale, so that Blackwell's progress can be viewed from a unique perspective. Dell Technology (DELL.US) also said that Blackwell-based servers will be fully launched in early 2025.

Data center operators use Nvidia chips to develop artificial intelligence software and services. Nvidia admitted in August that Blackwell's production was more difficult than expected. The company said changes are being made to increase production.

Nvidia CEO Hwang In-hoon said at the time: “We will have a large supply and we will be able to increase production.”
