The Zhitong Finance App learned that Ferrari (RACE.US) launched its first new supercar in more than 10 years. Although the basic price of this new limited-edition supercar is 3.6 million euros (3.9 million US dollars), it has sold out.

Ferrari said on Thursday that the new F80, equipped with a 1,200-horsepower V6 hybrid engine, is one of the most expensive models ever made by the Italian luxury car manufacturer, limited to 799 units. Delivery of the car will begin before the end of next year.

This car represents Ferrari's latest effort to further improve its industry-leading profit margins. Although Ferrari produces only a fraction of its rivals, the company's high profit margins have made it Europe's most valuable car manufacturer.

In the face of a general slowdown in luxury consumption, demand for high-end supercars that cost more than $1 million remains strong. The standard price of the F80 in Italy is 3.6 million euros; prices for other countries will be announced later.

This two-seater F80 has a top speed of around 217 miles per hour and is the company's first supercar since launching the LaFerrari in 2013. While the term “supercar” is commonly used to refer to a high-powered sports car, Ferrari uses it for its limited and most expensive models.

The company said the F80's design was inspired by the aerospace industry. Ferrari's chief design officer, Flavio Manzoni, said that Ferrari “wants to do something absolutely futuristic and disruptive; we don't want to be overwhelmed by nostalgic ideas.”

Ferrari's chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera said earlier this week that the model's preview went very smoothly. Although the contract has not yet been signed, all 799 cars have been unofficially booked by potential customers. By selling all these cars at a price of 3.6 million euros each, Ferrari will receive a total revenue of 2.88 billion euros.

CEO Benedetto Vigna began driving the company to produce more electric vehicles soon after joining in 2021. Last month, he said the company is expected to launch its first electric supercar in the fourth quarter of next year.

Vigna is also committed to maintaining the exclusivity of the Ferrari product line and relies on bespoke services to increase profits. This gave him room to raise the price even more.
