Agave Health (or “Agave”), the first and only virtual care clinic for adult ADHD, today announced the launch of the first-ever virtual service for evaluating and diagnosing adult ADHD.
Agave’s new evaluation and diagnosis service takes place over three virtual sessions and combines clinical protocols, surveys, and 1:1 analysis and psychoeducation by a board-certified psychologist, therapist or mental health provider. The service is now available for the more than 10 million people covered by most major commercial insurers in Florida. It is also available in Pennsylvania with plans to roll it out in New York before 2025.
Today, 1 in 5 adults live with some type of neurodiversity of which ADHD is the largest group, affecting at least 20 million American adults. Many more adults, however, live with ADHD without knowing it. It’s estimated that 4 in 5 adults with ADHD are undiagnosed, hindering their ability to access clinical treatment and subclinical support that would improve their lives at home, work and in relationships.
“I was diagnosed with ADHD for the first time as an adult. It was a lightbulb moment that ADHD is not a childhood disorder that one outgrows – it’s a lifelong operating system,” said Dr. David Sitt, Clinical Psychologist, ADHD expert, and Clinical Director, Agave Health. “Diagnosis is empowerment. It can diminish the shame, guilt, anxiety and depression that often comes with undiagnosed ADHD. With the right treatment and support, adults with ADHD can manage their symptoms and harness their superpowers, like creativity, hyperfocus and thinking on their feet.”
Agave Health is led by technology entrepreneurs and practicing clinicians all of whom have a personal connection to neurodiversity and ADHD. This personal experience motivated the Agave team to build the most comprehensive care solution for adult ADHD, backed by clinical data and virtual-first to scale.
Agave’s members get access to: expert evaluation and diagnosis; personalized onboarding; 1:1 video visits and text-based support from a certified ADHD coach; an on-demand library of cognitive behavioral therapy programs and tools; and support from fellow members as part of the community. Agave does not provide medication for adult ADHD, but can assess and refer patients who might benefit from medication to a psychiatrist.
According to AON, 20 percent of employers state that neurodiversity is a top priority for them going forward, recognizing the impact of neurodiversity on a growing number of adults who require specialized support to do their best work. Unlike other health benefits, support for adults with ADHD has the power to positively impact the beneficiary as well as their coworkers, as adults with ADHD learn to improve their communications, organization and productivity at work.
“In building the most comprehensive care clinic for adults with ADHD, we understand that with the right support, our members have the ability to impact their workplaces in a big way. These individuals are creative risk-takers with problem-solving skills that can surpass those of their neurotypical colleagues,” said Ori Fruhauf, Co-Founder and CEO, Agave Health. “To unleash that uniqueness, we’ve focused 100 percent on delivering an effective, community-driven solution for the fastest growing cohort of neurodiverse people – adults with ADHD. In time we hope to translate the same founding principles to support more neurodiverse communities, and help more people in need.”
