Raw sugar futures No. 11 on the Intercontinental Exchange fell for the second consecutive trading day on Friday. Among them, the benchmark contract closed 2.5% lower, falling from a 7-month high as production prospects improved in major Asian producers. Dealers say producers are taking advantage of recent price increases to sell. There are signs that India may produce enough sugar to export around 2 million tons in the next year. StoneX said in a report that as production prospects in India and Thailand improve, global production will be 2 million tons higher than demand in 2024/25. This is higher than the 1.2 million surplus previously estimated. Overall, futures sugar is still on the rise. According to the consulting agency BMI, Brazil's 2024/25 sugar production is estimated at 39 million tons due to severe droughts and related wildfires, a decrease of 2 million tons over the previous year. IKAR Consulting said that due to bad weather, Russia's sugar production will be reduced by 10% next year, but after the export ban is lifted, Russia will export at least 600,000 tons.
