Colliers Brokers Deal for Historic YWCA in Oakland

Colliers arranged the $22.5-million sale of the historic Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Building located at 1515 Webster in downtown Oakland. Dating from 1915, the 67,420 square foot Oakland landmark is a five-story property is the first of 17 YWCAs designed by famed Northern California architect Julia Morgan.

SVP Benjamin Harrison and VP Will Cliff represented the seller, Douglas Abrams, GZP Highbridge Equity Partners, which also owns Tribune Tower, Financial Center Building, 1500 Broadway and The Loom Oakland. The buyer is the existing tenant, a charter school. The building has 66-plus residential units, which will be made available to the teaching community.

 “We are very happy to help bring this transaction to fruition to honor this building’s rich history and original intent of “gathering children together to teach them helpful things,” said Harrison, “The seller was instrumental in structuring a complicated bond offering to make this ideal match a reality.”
