Home Depot Inc. is moving forward with plans for new stores in Surprise and Buckeye. In June, the home improvement retailer received a building permit from the city of Surprise for a new 109,651-square-foot warehouse store with an attached garden center. Home Depot has also submitted plans to the city of Buckeye for a new hardware store.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports that Home Depot acquired about 18 acres at the southeast corner of Cactus Road and Loop 303 in Surprise earlier this year for $8.4 million in cash for its proposed store. The site will be developed adjacent to Barclay Group’s new Fry’ s-anchored shopping center, which is expected to start construction this fall and open by the second half of 2025. The contractor is Robinson Construction Co.

The 108,000-square-foot Buckeye store will be part of the 410,000-square-foot Buckeye Commons shopping center that’s anchored by a Costco store and could see other retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods.
