The Macau police, together with the Mainland and Hong Kong police, recently launched a “peak breaking” operation to successfully crack down on a criminal syndicate involving illegal cross-border gambling and money laundering. A total of 93 people were arrested in the operation. Among them, 44 men and 6 women were arrested in Macau. Among them, the group leader and backbone were seized, and more than 8 million stolen cash, including MOP, Hong Kong dollars, and RMB. 4 of them are suspected of operating illegal gambling establishments in Macau. Four other gang members are serving their sentences in a money laundering case. The Macau police estimate that since the operation of the group in 2016, the amount involved in the case was no less than MOP 1 billion.
