What is my buying power for crypto? Why can’t I place my crypto order?

Crypto buying power is displayed at the bottom of the order ticket. Additionally, only settled funds are available for crypto trading.

Stock and ETF trades settle 2 business days following the trade date (T+2) and option trades settle 1 business day following the trade date (T+1). This means funds from stock, ETF, and options sales may take up to 3 days to become available for buying crypto’s. All proceeds from crypto sales are available immediately for crypto trading.

If you are in a margin account, there are a few reasons why you may not be able to place a buy orde:

1. You don’t have enough buying power to place the trade. Crypto’s are non-marginable and you will not be able to trade crypto’s on margin.

2. You don’t have enough funds to meet the required margin maintenance. If you are placing a crypto buy order which may cause the total value of your stocks, ETFs, options and cash to drop below the required margin maintenance, your order cannot be placed. If your net account value has dropped below the required margin maintenance, your crypto buying power will be 0.

3. Your account was flagged as a pattern day trader (PDT). If you are placing a crypto buy order which may cause the total value of your stocks, ETFs, options and cash to drop below the minimum equity requirement of $25,000, your order cannot be placed. If your account value account value is below $25,000, your crypto buying power will be 0.

4. Your account has been restricted from crypto trading. If your account has been restricted from crypto trading, your crypto buying power will be 0.
